SYCAMORE, IL, MAY 2, 2005 – To better accommodate technicians troubleshooting fiber optic cable, IDEAL announced today a major upgrade to its VFF5 Visual Fault Finder.
This second generation tester now features a universal 2.5mm interface that supports ST, SC and FC optical connectors, along with a nonroll metal body protected from water damage and slippage by a Santoprene® oversleeve. In addition, battery life was improved from 30 to 80 hours in continuous mode and users now have the option of carrying the VFF5 in a nylon holster or integrated swivel beltclip.
Compact yet powerful, the IDEAL VFF5 is a handheld light source optimized to locate breaks, poor mechanical splices and damaged connectors in fiber optic cables. Its highly visible red light travels approximately 2.5 miles (4km) of jacketed or bare fiber optic cabling. The technician simply inspects the length of cable — any breaks will be seen as a conspicuously glowing or blinking red light.
The VFF5 is also an excellent aide to technicians terminating mechanical splices or internalsplice style connectors where leaking light is an indicator of a poor fiber cleave or other misalignment.
The VFF5 is excellent as a standalone firstline tool, and is especially helpful when used in conjunction with an OTDR to pinpoint faults. It is equipped with a highpower, extra long life, 650nm laser diode that the user can decide to operate in either continuous or modulated mode.
The VFF5 is immediately available. Holster, integrated rubber port cover, lanyard, cellphone style beltclip, instruction sheet and batteries come with the kit.
